Q» How long does my hair have
to be to wear falls?
A» At least long enough to put up into
two pigtails, even if they're teeny tiny - it can be done! I use
and supply free with your falls high quality spiral pins which
when applied correctly, can make a bun from even the most wispy
and seemingly impossibly sparse hair!
Q» How do
I put them in?
A» There's a whole page to help you
with this int he webstore area.
Q» Help!
I bought falls from you and I just can't put them in right! What
am I doing wrong?
A» Practise makes perfect! It's a
bit like riding a bicycle, putting in falls: sometimes you have
to fall off a few times before you get the hang of it. If you're
using the materials supplied [spiral pins are VERY important!]
and following the falls care info, you should soon be putting
in falls like a pro! If you're in Perth, come back in to the shop
and I'll give you a little brush-up tutorial - absolutely free!
Or if you're far away and still having trouble - please email
me and I'll do the best I can to help you out!
Q» How
long will they last?
A» Depends. Wool falls are a natural
fibre, and should last a long time just like a wool jumper! Dread
falls are really hard to destroy and will last years and still
look virtually new! wildilocks dreads
are very tightly backcombed & steamed to last the longest
time possible.
Q» Will
wearing falls damage my hair?
A» If you wore falls every days for
several years, and never changed the way you wore them - then
yes, possibly it could. A condition called traction alopecia
can occur in some people from continued hair pulling. The good
news is, most people only wear falls a couple of nights a week
at most - and usually change styles reguarly, and even then, the
risk is very low and only to some indivduals. More information
can be found here,
here and
a very detailed article here
if you are concerned. If you have a history
of alopecia [hair loss] for any reason as a pre-existing condition,
you can still wear falls without causing forther damage, but it
may be advisable to consult your doctor or dermatologist before
doing so, just to be sure.
Q» I
have dreads already! Can I still wear a hairpiece?
A» Absolutely! You can put dreads
in pigtails or a ponytail, and add to their length and volume
with falls.
» Dreadlock - Specific
Q»
How do you make your dreads?
A» Dreadlocks are created using a
very heavy amount of backcombing, are twisted and then usually
"cured" for a few days when possible, which I find helps
strengthen their twist, then steamed with a heavy-duty steamer
to hold the twist and keep them soft. We never skimp on the time
it takes to make dreads, as quality is of the highest importance
to us. Standard dreads tend to be of the 'whippier" sort,
but can be made fuller if requested.
» Extensions
Q»
How exactly do you put the extensions in?
A» Depends. Loose extensions are done
with the bead method. For synthetic dreadlock extensions, I use
double-ended dreads with a pinch-braiding technique and I have
my own nuances, including my own original & unique developed
method of incorporating loose hair within the braided-in dread.
Wool extensions are braided in and secured with braid elastics.
Q»
How long does my hair have to be to get them?
A» Good news - your hair can be as
short as 1 inch! Yes! Bead method loose extensions
also allow other types of extensions and hairwraps to be created
on very short hair, but be warned this can get expensive as you
are getting loose extensions plus whatever other extension dependent
on the loose extensions. For standard dread and braided extensions
with just your own exisiting hair as the base, it's recommended
to be at least 3-4 inches long. About 6-7 inches is my favourite
length to work with. Also be aware that with dread and braid extensions,
dreads or braids need to be at least as long as your hair - or
you'll have hair sticking out every which way and it's not gonna
be pretty...
Q»
How long does it take?
A» This varies wildly depending how
much hair you have. As a rule, a full head of dread or loose extensions
takes around 4 - 5 hours, sometimes a little longer.
Q» Will it
damage my hair?
A» One thing
alot of people are concerned about with braids or dreads is hair
damage - after having extensions in for a couple of months, when
they come out you find a huge amount of hair comes out as well
- but it’s mostly just hair that would normally have been
shed during the course of the extensions being in, but they haven’t
been able to because they’ve been braided! Some people do
report hair thinning after having had extensions in for the first
time, but this will only be maybe 5% of your actual total hair
volume - enough to be noticeable to you, but not enough to male
you look much different! This hair will gorw back of course -
and for thinner hair, it is not unusual for hair to grow back
thicker and stronger - my own hair has! It's in better condition
after years of extensions than before.
Q»
What about alopecia [hair loss]? Will getting extensions
make my hair fall out?
A» As far as actual permanent
hair loss goes, extended and continual wearing of hair extensions
can eventually result in traction alopecia in some individuals
- but this generally take years of wearing your hair
in exactly the same extensions formation, and is more often the
result of very small tight braids or cornrows - very different
from the dreadlock extensions wildilocks does. More information
can be found here,
here and
a very detailed article here
if you are concerned. If you have a history
of alopecia [hair loss] for any reason as a pre-existing condition,
you can still have extensions put in without causing forther damage,
but it may be advisable to consult your doctor or dermatologist
before getting extensions, just to be sure.
Q»
I have sensitive skin / scalp. Can I still get extensions?
A» Sad but true, some people do actually
have extremely sensitive scalps which just don't take extensions
very well. You'll usually need to have them done to know, but
you could get an idea if you might be prone to discomfort or excessive
hair pullage by doing a few small but reasonably tight braids
somewhere on your own head and leaving them in for a few days,
maybe pull them a bit, and see how your scalp fares. If you don't
have any discomfort or flakiness occuring, try a full head, though
be aware sometimes you will still not be a suitable candidate.
Q» My hair
is very fine, can you do them on me?
A» Yes, fine hair is usually not a
problem with putting in extensions, though extremely fine hair
is probably not suited to full head loose extensions - though
I view this on a case by case basis, and it's best to come in
if you can to make sure.
Q»
How much do extensions cost?
A» This varies depending on type and
length. Best thing is to call us for a quote, or come into the
store.
Q»
I have an undercut - is this a problem?
A» Absolutely not! In fact, you'll
be paying alot less and still have a great head of extensions
- undercuts cut out a signifcant amount of dreads and so you'll
have your extensions in faster and cheaper!
Q»
How do I take your extensions out?
A» You can take extensions out by
yourself, or come into the shop and I can do it for you for a
quoted price depending on amount and type of extensions. Loose
bead extensions require a small pair of pliers, simply press the
flattened bead's edges in and the bead will open up, and you can
slide the extensions off quite easily. Pinch-braided loose extensions
and dread extensions can be removed simply by snipping the string
they are done with, and unravelling/unbraiding. You can do this
yourself but ideally enlist a friend to help you with the hard
to reach spots that you can't see with your own eyes.
Q»
Can I re-use the extensions?
A» Yes, but in the course of wear,
loose extensions often become work and generally if reapplication
is required after 6-9 months of wear, clients usually choose to
have new hair installed. Dreadlocks extensions when removed should
be washed [use a delicates bag if putting in your washing machine]
and can then be used as falls, or braided in again when you feel
like it, and they can last for years! Wool extensions can also
be resued, but because the material cost is alot smaller than
for dreads, clients usually choose new wool [and new colours!]
Braids however, don't do well being re-used.
Q»What can
I do with my hair while I have extensions in?
A» You can dye your hair and the dye
will not affect synthetic extensions, they'll stay as bright as
ever: roots or whole heads of colour can be touched up with no
problem. Human hair or wool extensions will take colour though,
so this is not recommended unless you want to change the colour
all over.
Q»
What else should I know before getting extensions put
in?
A» When coming
in to have extensions put in, especially for full heads, ideally
wash your hair but do NOT condition. Please make sure your hair
is fully dry before you come in for best results. Any more questions?
Send me an email!

Q» Where are
you located again?
A» Shop: @
BASE808
808 Hay St
Perth
Western Australia
Q»
What kind of hair do you use?
A» I use a wide variety of hair from
suppliers all over the world. Please see pages relating to each
type of extensions/falls for more detailed information.
Q» Okay, I've
put in an order, how long will it take to get to me?
A» Please see the main page
for current order fulfilment times: then ad shipping times. Easy!
Q»
I didn't recieve a reply to my question or order,
why not?
A» FIRST: PLEASE CHECK THAT
YOU CAN RECEIVE EMAIL at the address you've given to me. I am
having increasing enquiry responses bounced back from mailboxes
which are FULL. This is frustrating for me and of course also
for you. I occasionally have to get clarification on orders, and
am frustrated when no reply is given, and have to refund the order
as a result.
There are however times when it takes me several days to get through
the backlog of email as the site is becoming more and more popular
and my volume of orders [and therefore mail] is increasing: sometimes
this is a little hard for me to get on top of and I apologise
for this. Orders will always be fulfilled within the times listen
on the main page though, if for any reason they can't be you will
be notified immediately.
Q»
Will you sell me materials that you use to make stuff?
A» Not currently, except for wool.
Online hair sellers abound and I have no plans of joining their
ranks in the near future, or come into the shop and have made
for or on you! I simply don't have the storage capacity or turnover
to justify becoming a raw materials reseller on top of all the
finished products I create. If this situation changes or I have
any overstock to sell, it will be announced on the news feed,
though.
Q»
Do you offer any of your products wholesale?
A» Yes, I do, but not all
items. Minimum order is $USD 150.00 for items
under $USD 10.00 each wholesale, $USD 300.00
for items over $USD 10.00 each wholesale, minimum quantities vary,
as does wholesale discount off retail. Drop me an email
for more information.
Q»
I am a maker/supplier of hair accessories or another
product that you might want to sell on your site or at your shop.
Would you be interested?
A» Possibly! Drop me an email
and tell me about it.
Q» I
love your website design. Who did it?
A» Actually - mostly it has been done
by me. I have a degree in Multimedia - but I love hair extensions
even more than the computer! I do not have time to do websites
for others, with the exception of art projects such as www.kiwiburn.com,
which I maintain with assistance.
