Wildilocks September Update
23/09/09 @ 10:33:10 pm, Categories: Store News, Events, 605 words   English (AU)

Hi folks!

It's been a little while since our last general update, and we've got loads of news! Lots of new products in store, and events and announcements and goings-on. So without further ado:

Events News:

Victorian Era Dance & Costume Festival, Canberra - October 2-5th, 2009

Wildilocks is proud to be presenting a workshop on Victorian Hairstyling as part of the Victorian Era Festival for 2009, held by the Earthly Delights Historical Dance Academy. The festival focuses on Victorian era partner dances & costuming, and has many workshops on a wide variety of Victorian pursuits such as bonnet making, etiquette, needlework, a Graveyard Tour, and there's even a talk on Steampunk! You can see the full program for the weekend here [pdf], and there's still time to register and attend this wonderful event!

Euchronia

OK, we've been getting emails, calls and people in store @ Wildilocks asking us: is there going to be a Euchronia this year?

After significant deliberation and consideration for 2009, we've decided that, in keeping with our aim to maintain Euchronia as a unique and truly world class event, it would ideally be held every other year, rather than annually. So, let the anticipation really begin to build early, and please mark your calendar for December 31, 2010!

In the meantime, the Antipodean League of Temporal Voyagers will be looking into more local events, and directing your support to steampunk goodness around the hemisphere.

Stock News:

We have quite a few new lines and items in stock since our last bulletin. Dolly Q has several new styles available, we have gorgeous new miniature top hats from Phaze along with regular new clothing items, cute anime robot buttons & badges from Irreverie, Wee Willy Winkie nightcaps from Dusk Moth, new Hoodies, tops and dresses from Nubia, and our very own Locks Gear teaser range of pants & tops (more coming soon!) and one of our absolutely new and favourite items are the delightful IzWoz Steambug Hoodies & Tshirts - a more casual look for those of a steampunk persuasion, the steambugs are soooo cute!

Steambugs

In hair care & body care, we have ever more dread care with as always Knotty Boy, but adding new items from DreadheadHQ and new Melbourne manufacturer JaTaa - as well as lovely lovely Pout Balms from Nilla Nilla that have the most delicious flavours.

Nilla Nilla

And last but not least - we have Disco Brites UV nail polish. Now this is not just UV nailpolish in a clear shade, or white - but every colour you could imagine - including black! Yes, this is the first UV black nail polish we've ever come across, and it's brilliant!

We have many more items constantly becoming available so do pop in store to check out what's new.

Store News:

In general store news, we will be having a pricing restructure beginning Nov 1st, 2009. Many prices will stay the same and some may even go down though some will inevitably rise as our costs have risen over the past year, and we do have allow for changing circumstances and the developing bevy of talent we have under our roof(s)! Just a little forewarning so folks are not taken too much by surprise.

Staff News:

Two new staff members since last bulletin! We have had the very talented Madison join us in Melbourne midway through her training and she is a very bright star. And our youngest staff member Evie has become our newest apprentice in Perth. Both have been with us now for a few months and have been settling in excellently.

That's about all for now - we hope to see you soon!

Hey folks,

We're after a few models @ The Lockworks for some training & filming sessions for Wildilocks Treats coming up over the next month. These are for Victorian classical period hairstyles, and we're looking for gals with at least shoulder length hair, preferably in lighter colours as these show more detail than black. If you think you fit the bill and are free Wednesday afternoons, are happy to sign a model release and sit for a few hours being made bootiful, please give us a call asap on (03) 9642 3384 and we'll lock you in!

Also, for those eagerly awaiting, Coilhouse #3 arrived this morning and is available for purchase both instore and online.

Hey folks,

Fiend Magazine Issue #18 - The Steampunk Issue is now available instore @ Wildilocks & now online from our webstore too! Tons of awesome stuff and of course, featuring a variety of articles on various aspects of Steampunk, including an interview with Doctor Steel, our very own The Tenth Stage, the delectable Kate O'Brien's lush and steamy photography, and simply lashings of Steampunk fashion!

What we're really pleased and excited about though, is a collaboration for the first time between Wildilocks and Fiend, as we present the inaugural Fiend Exclusive Wildilocks Treats how-to article, "Steampunk Glamour" - the full text is solely available in Fiend while issue #18 is current. For a taste, see our accompanying how-to videos on youtube here - or view the whole series embedded @ Wildilocks Treats... and if you would like the accompanying written instructions & stunning finished pics, grab yourself a copy of Fiend, pronto! Being Steampunk focused, I won't be at all surprised if this issue sells out fast.

Cheers,

Cass

Wildilocks News for March 2009
29/03/09 @ 07:41:55 pm, Categories: Store News, Site News, 590 words   English (AU)

Hey cats and kittens! It's been a while since we did a general update on what's been happening in the land of the Wild and hirsute. Frankly there's been so much going on over summer we've barely stopped expect to promote events we've been involved in - but there's been so much more!

Staff News: Our lovely stylist Kate became a fully qualified Senior early this year, and has been helping out at the Perth store - those of you who've met her in either location will know just how wonderfully she fits in with our great crew. Kelsey our part time Melbourne junior has become a full time apprentice, and starts classes in a couple weeks. She just got her tools for the trade last week, and has a spanky new pair of PIRATE scissors - that's right, PIRATE scissors! They are adorable, as is she. Everyone else is going great guns, and despite the economic downturn, we are still getting busier all the time- in fact we are always on the look out for new senior staff, so if you're qualified please send us your resume! We won't be looking for new juniors for at least 3-6 months or so though that's also one the cards as well so if you're interested in working with us in either case please send resumes to jobs@wildilocks.com.

New Products: As always new clothing is arriving all the time, with additions to the racks over the past few weeks including gorgeous Sekushi open rope-back 3/4 sleeve tops that we all adore, some super cute new style New Rock Boots, semi glove/arm sleeves in simple stripe and tribal patterns as well as fancier lace and velvet styles, volumious floor length ball skirts, and so much more. In hair product, we have been stocking Directions hair dye for a few months now and have been really impressed with this adjunct to our Special Effects range of intense semi-permanent colours: there are some slightly different shades, and they are as long lasting as SFX. Yummy! Also new on the radar are a couple of great certified organic products by Everescents and CHI: Our current favourite hair reviltaliser, the Organic Cinnamon and Patchouli Deep Treatment has become hugely popular with clients and staff alike; and we've just received new stock of our always popular CHI Tone & Shine colour enhancing conditioners: we're very excited to discover the new range has become Certified Organic as this was not previously an organic product. Has necessitated a small price rise, but it's so worth it to tread lighter on our planet.

Events: Things are a little quiet on the event front now Circa Nocturna is over, but the Antipodean League of Temporal Voyagers (the nominal organising body behind Euchronia) has just announced A Queen's Birthday Dinner Voyage - a lovely steampunk-themed dinner aboard Melbourne's Colonial Tramway Restaurant! That's still a few months away but tickets are strictly limited, and available from the League website or in store @ The Lockworks.

New Treats: Finally, we have just updated our Wildilocks Treats blog with a new article on Vintage styling: Regency to early Victorian (the Jane Austen era) which is a gorgeous look indeed, see out lovely model Alice below:

Holiday Opening Hours: Please note that Wildilocks in both Perth and Melbourne will be closed the entire weekend of Easter from Friday 10th - Monday 13th April.

That's all for this newsletter folks! Have a wonderful belated Vernal Equinox celebration and don't stuff yourself with *too* much chocolate :)

Well now that we are well and truly into the new year and post-Euchronia euphoria has settled (portrait photos are all up now btw, over here), it's time to get back to the regular business of doing awesome hair and having many wonderful treasures available for you instore. Events: We have tickets available @ The Lockworks for two brilliant fundraisers coming up @ The East Brunswick Club - The Girl From East Brunswick next Friday to aid the Greyhound Adoption Program, and Valentines @ The East from Sugar Kitten Cabaret on Valentines day, with all proceeds going to WIRE! You can buy these online from the Wildilocks webstore too, with limited seated tix available for Valentine's.

BPAL finally in store! + holiday info for Wildilocks

Yes, after protracted tussles with customs, we are pleased to announce we FINALLY have Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs perfume oils in stock at Wildilocks @ The Lockworks, just in time for last-minute gift buying - though they will probably not arrive in Perth til Xmas eve or the day before! We have a selection of best sellers including Snake Oil and Embalming Fluid, the entire Phoenix Steamworks series, and of course, the Travelling Salon Exhibition which is not available from the BPAL website but only from retailers - the first time these scents have been available in Australia - and they are truly exceptional. If you are unaware of Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs, they are a well known and highly respected perfume house in the alternative scene in the USA, and produce scents of higher quality than many major producers.

We've also recently received new stock of lovely Dusk Moth fascinators in new and ever more dramatic styles, tons of corsets and skirts from Dolly Q and Asylum7, wonderful steampunk jewellery from Diamondfox, genuine analog open-back pocketwatches in gold and silver, Funky rave gear from KK, and much more.
